Ummm. WTF?!!!
Madison news segment about my sister - Milton Cancer Survivor Competing In Ford Ironman Triathlon
Words can’t express how proud I am of her for all she’s accomplished in the last two years!
Great Article About My Sister - Michele Wilkinson doesn’t allow breast cancer to slow her down
Finish a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bicycle trek and a 26.2-mile marathon run in 17 hours or less, and you’re an Ironman.
Run a half-marathon two days before a five-hour bilateral mastectomy, receive energy-sapping chemotherapy for 12 months and complete eight running events in the last six months of that therapy, including three half-marathons, a sprint triathlon, a half-Ironman and the Chicago Marathon, and you are Michele Wilkinson.
Wilkinson, 41, of Milton is in remission after an almost two-year battle with breast cancer. She chose to stand up and fight through exercise.
Wilkinson is entered in the Wisconsin Ironman in Madison on Sept. 12 with her husband, Brendon. It’s a celebration for the hard and inspirational path that Wilkinson has traveled.
So proud of what she’s accomplished and overcome. She’s an amazing woman!
I’m back!
Where to begin. It’s been a little while since I last updated this blog. Thanks to inspiration from Lisa Timmons, I’m looking forward to doing some personal blogging. Look for a mix of personal stuff, work experiences, gadget and software finds, and my trials and tribulations in the blogging world.
Here’s a little recap of what’s all happened in the last eight months since my last blog post.
Anceert and I moved back to Chicago from Los Angeles in September 2009. It just made sense for us to make the move back, and luckily we hadn’t sold our condo. We do miss Los Angeles much more than we actually thought we would. Here’s a shout out to all of our LA peeps! However, it’s been great to reconnect with everyone in Chicago, and being closer to my family is a big plus!
Two days after I moved back to Chicago (Anceert moved back two weeks earlier than I did), I broke my ankle falling down a flight of stairs after finishing up work at midnight (It was the MTV Video Awards). I won’t go into details, but it was a BAD break, i broke it on both sides (I’ve got a plate, screws and pins in it). Luckily, I work from home, so I really only missed two days of work. However, Lisa will attest to this, that my working under the influence of pain killers was not always smooth sailing. The Emmy Awards were the night after my surgery, and I worked that night, under the influence of some heavy medication, and after a few hours I finally had to give up because my IM’s kind of stopped making sense. Socialite Life still managed to bring in some great numbers though!
I was on crutches and had cast for eight weeks, crutches and a boot for another eight weeks and then just crutches for another four weeks after that. I’m currently going to physical therapy twice a week, where I played catch while balancing soley on my bad ankle (the left one) for the first time - it was pretty humourous. While my balance has always sucked, the broken ankle didn’t do much to improve that. So, it has been a long rode. I still walk with a pretty heavy limp some days, and my foot is still pretty swollen - I could have another six months of that. I had to buy two new pairs of shoes to compensate for the swelling. I typically wear a size 11, but had to buy size 13 since that’s the smalled shoe size I could get my foot into. The swelling better go down soon, because there are a number of pairs of Prada shoes calling out my name in my closet.
The other big news is that my long time Socialite Life editor and dear friend Lisa Timmons, reached her celebrity gossip breaking point and left the site for a blogging job totally non-celebrity related. Needless to say, she’s dearly missed.
Elvis, our cat, had some health issues - digestive stuff and thyroid cancer. He had tons of x-rays, which resulted in a lovely shaved belly, and a shot of radiation. After he came home from the hospital, he was actually radioactive for two weeks. So that was interesting - we really could play with him or have him near us for that time. He seems to be doing okay though. He goes for a followup appointment in about six weeks.
I’m still putting in some LONG hours, but I’ve got a plan in place to work more effectively and efficiently, so I can have an actual life outside of Tiger Woods’ sex life and what inane thing Heidi Montag is doing at the moment.
On the homefront, Anceert is still feeling the effects of this crappy economy. So if you know of any jobs, or have any contacts, in the architectural or interior design field let me know. We’ve done a few home improvement projects since we’ve been back in the condo. We had a tiled backsplash put up in the kitchen, added built-ins in the alcove in the area between the kitchen and dining room, put up sliding blinds in the living room and will be tackling some painting projects this spring.
So that’s the last eight months in a nutshell. Here’s hoping the next eight months are a little less stressful.
